If there is one thing Lexi Monzeglio – owner and chef at Lexi’s Healthy Eatery knows – its how to make plants taste unbelievably good.
My sister and I, plus two very skeptical meat loving boyfriends, headed there on Friday evening after hearing some really awesome reviews and it did not disappoint.
Just over two weeks ago, Lexi and her business partner launched Lexi’s Healthy Eatery in Sandton.
This spot is striving for the most sustainable, conscious, moral and nutritious way of eating, which Lexi describes as – mostly plants and very little processed foods.
As a former graphic designer, Lexi left her desk job over five years ago to pursue her love of food.
She’s worked at food markets, set up pop up tasting kitchens and spent late nights pursuing food dreams.
More about Lexi’s Healthy Eatery
She has poured her passion into the project and created a place that welcomes you in from the moment you set foot inside.
Her food combinations are so unique and like nothing I have ever seen before.
The menu features fresh juices, smoothies, breakfasts, nibbles, bowls, burgers, and wraps ensuring you leave stuffed and satisfied!
If I could have, I would have sat there and ordered everything off the menu!
Restaurants in Sandton can so often feel stuffy and overpriced.
But Lexis Healthy Eatery cuts right through that with its refreshing take on dining, and is a bright, warm and welcoming place to eat – serving up nutritionally rich and good-for-you food that makes you feel nourished with every bite.
Not to mention the incredible prices and massive portions!
The food:
Tenderstem Broccoli with Mustard Dressing – A combo of flavours so good it turned my sister’s meat eater boyfriend into a vegan.
Our personal fav – Beetroot Falafels – soft and crumbly and packed with an earthy punch.
Black Rice Porcini Risotto with creamy butternut puree.
Such a Gem Salad – quite possibly the biggest bowl of salad I have ever seen.
Frozen Chocolate Ganache – the only dessert on the menu at the moment – but its a real crowd pleaser and isn’t overly sweet – definitely hits the spot!
Keep an eye on this place, I am pretty sure it’s going to have a line out the door everyday pretty soon – especially during lunch times, as Lexi turns healthy eating on its head with her creative recipes that get people to eat more plants.
Her energy and passion certainly inspired me and I will definitely be back, as will the two meat eater boyfriends who left completely shocked that they had enjoyed the food.
Address: Shop 2, 24 Central Centre, 6 Gwen Lane, Sandown
Hope you get to visit this spot soon – you won’t be disappointed.
Love,
Cat
