A review of O Nutricia Collagen, which contains Proline and Glycine, that can help with IBS by repairing damaged cells in the intestinal wall.
If you are on Instagram, you have most likely seen O Nutricia Collagen on your feed. Lucy Tavares, the owner, spends a great deal of time marketing and promoting her collagen and for good reason. This stuff is PHENOMENAL!
Before we go any further, I have to say up front that I bought my collagen and this review is NOT sponsored.
Firstly, What is Collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, and it’s a required building block for healthy nails, hair, skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, and more.
Collagen provides the ‘scaffolding’ for the structure of our body.
A month ago, I started taking O’Nutricia Collagen.
Because you see, as Leigh from Lipgloss is My Life told me, once you hit about 25 years of age your collagen levels go to a ball of shit.
While we are born with an abundance of collagen in our skin, the body’s production of collagen slows in our mid-to-late 20’s and continues to decrease dramatically after age 30 dropping by 1-2% each year!
Therefore, it is a given that taking collagen peptides will help to plump up hair, skin and nails, but the main reason I wanted to take collagen was because of the claim that it can help with IBS symptoms.
Collagen and IBS

A Review of O Nutricia Collagen
According to Lucy from O Nutricia, Collagen contains Proline and Glycine, which can help repair damaged cells in the intestinal wall.
Her collagen contains high levels of these amino acids including; glycine, hydroxyproline, proline and arginine.
This very specific composition of amino-acids provides O Nutricia Collagen with nutri-functional properties that cannot be found in other proteins sources.
Doctors have found an association between IBS and diminished collagen levels.
In fact, healthy collagen levels have been shown to help regulate proper gut acidity, which may prevent painful heartburn and digestion issues.
My Experience with Collagen
Full disclaimer, no matter how well I eat in the day, no matter how much gluten and dairy I avoid, no matter how many low fodmap foods I eat, I often still have bloating and pain in my stomach at the end of the day.
However as soon as I started adding collagen to my morning cup of tea, I noticed the most remarkable thing.
I had no more pain or bloating at the end of the day.
I thought to myself, this must be a coincidence.
The next day, I added collagen to my tea again and once again, my tummy was flat at bedtime.
Two weeks passed and I started to notice my nails growing a lot faster than usual.
By the end of August, I had probably had one or two days that I had experienced bloating and it was my own fault for eating too much cake. 😜
I DM’d Lucy on Instagram and told her I was doing a review of O Nutricia Collagen on the blog because I was astounded by the results.
Then this happened.
Another problem with IBS is that it is difficult for me to pick up weight. I also don’t each much meat, so I have to eat a lot of plant protein that sometimes I just can’t get enough of in a day.
The result being that no matter how much I eat, I battle to pick up weight and muscle.
And here is the real kicker – the thing that made me realise the collagen has definitely helped with absorption in my gut.
I went to a wedding dress fitting yesterday and my dress didn’t fit! 🤣
I have picked up a tiny bit of muscle and they need to alter my dress.
So, I ordered another bottle of Collagen and I don’t think I will be looking back anytime soon.
Collagen for the WIN!
Have you tried collagen before?

Hi, I tried another collagen but found that I was very gassy and I smelt terrible, I know it is an awkward question, sorry, and maybe it was the brand but I was just worried to try it again. I also have IBS and live on probiotics and really struggle with my stomach no matter what I eat. Do u think this is worth a try? Thanks Cat

Hey Tracey I have not had this problem at all – I promise! The collagen itself is very high quality from what understand and has no odour either. Please try it and let me know your thoughts x
