Super Easy Chai Spelt Waffles

These Easy Chai Spelt Waffles are so quick and easy to make, you will never want to buy pre-bought waffles or use a waffle mix again. As I wrote in my last blog post, Spelt flour is an ancient grain that is easier to digest than regular white or whole-wheat flour.

Spelt flour contains more protein and vitamin B2 than whole-wheat flour and gives the waffles a yummy nutty flavour. I decided to make the waffles have a spiced chai flavour, after enjoying the previous Chai Spiced Rooibos I had created.

Chai Spices

For these Easy Chai Spelt Waffles, I made my own chai spice mix consisting of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. You could add cardamom too but I don’t really like the taste. You can also just use a chai spice mix if you have one, but I always like making these kinds of things from scratch.

Easy Chai Spelt Waffles

This recipe makes around 6 – 8 waffles, depending on the kind of waffle iron you have. I have a really old fashioned one, that was passed down to me from my gran. 😍

After the waffles were done, I topped them with apple slices, coconut yoghurt, chocolate-coated almonds, coconut flakes and maple syrup, but you can top with anything really!

The PERFECT Maple Syrup

Also, I wanted to give you a heads up that I think I have found the best Maple Syrup ever – and it’s available at Woolworths.

It is straight from Canada, is A-Grade, has the perfect runny consistency and isn’t too sweet.

At R100 a bottle, it’s by no means cheap, but its really good quality and you get what you pay for you know?
